8th Pay Commission: Fitment Factor, Salary Hike. All Details Here

The centre has given a go-ahead to the formation of 8th-Pay Commission, raising hopes for a salary hike for its employees. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that PM Narendra Modi has approved the commission’s establishment. The commission is expected to be set up by 2026.

Close to 4.9 million Central government employees and 6.5 million pensioners are eagerly waiting for salary and pension revisions.

Expectations

As per experts, fitment factor could be set between 2.28 and 2.86, which means that government employees are expected to see a hike of 40-50%.

In the past, the fitment factor has steadily increased. E.g.

* 6th Pay Commission: Fitment factor of 1.86

* 7th Pay Commission: Fitment factor of 2.57, leading to a 23.55% average salary hike

With 8th Pay Commission on cards, experts believe that fitment factor could fall between 2.6-2.85.

Notably, if fitment factor falls between 2.6 and 2.85, basic salary could surge by 25-30%, along with proportional pension increases.

When is the 8th Pay Commission going to be implemented?

According to reports, the committee members are expected to be named by the end of this month. The implementation is set to take place by January 2026, followed by the government’s review of the recommendations
